Easing Back Into the Year!💜✨

Reflections on a full year, slowing down, and returning to everyday life ! 💜✨

Hello my friends,

Don’t succumb to the pressure of the “new year ,new you “.

Let yourself exhale deeply from the busyness of Christmas and relax.

Pour into yourself now .

Coming back from vacation this year felt harder than usual.

I found myself struggling to slip back into my regular routine and work schedule, and at first I questioned why. But as I slowed down while I was away, something became very clear , the past year had been full. Busy. Hectic. And only visible once I finally paused.

I really saw it when I paused to reflect on the past year and also by looking back through my camera roll. Putting together my end-of-year reel felt harder than expected simply because there was so much to choose from. It was difficult to fit everything into one small space. I have included a sneak peek video for you to see.

And what a year it was.

It held work and long hours at the hospital, fundraising events, and many hours of volunteer work. It held creativity , writing, painting, and weekends filled with baking, cooking, and sharing with my local community.

One of the most rewarding parts of the year was the growth in my role and completing my social work degree. So much studying, so much effort ,and all of it worth it.

No wonder my body and mind needed time to catch up.

As this new year begins, I’ve noticed that easing back into everyday tasks has felt slower , and instead of pushing through, I’ve chosen to listen.

Part of my self-care this year has been returning to meditation.

I recently discovered a Guidance meditation shared by one of the Substack authors , Graham Wardle from Time Has Come, I found this at his website , purchased and downloaded it and it’s been grounding and supportive during this transition. I highly recommend it, especially for those who are having trouble meditating.

What I’ve also learned this year is that I want to include myself in the care I so freely give to others.

Rather than setting big resolutions, I’m focusing on simple, supportive practices , the kind that can gently fit into everyday life.

If helpful, here are a few self-care intentions I’m carrying into the year, and perhaps you might like to try one or two as well:

  • Spending more time in nature, even if it’s just a short walk to chase sunsets

  • Returning to meditation or quiet moments of stillness

  • Allowing myself more rest, without guilt

  • Making space for creativity ,writing, painting.

  • Moving my body gently and consistently

  • Eating in a way that feels nourishing rather than restrictive

  • Taking more breaks, and planning time away when possible

Not as a checklist , but as reminders.

I haven’t set big goals for this year. Instead, I’m walking into it with intention, trusting that slowing down and paying attention will guide me forward.

Reflection question and journal prompt!

As you step into this new year, which one small act of self-care feels most supportive for you right now?

Much love ❤️

Irene 💜

I want more sunrises and sunsets 🌅
